CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) phosphors are excited by a beam of electrons generated by an electron gun within the CRT. Phosphor Technology manufactures a range of phosphor powders designed for use in CRTs.

CRT phosphors are frequently referred to by P numbers as specified by the Electronics Industries Assciation (EIA) of the US. A unified Worldwide Phosphor Type Designation System (WTDS) using one or two letter codes was developed later on.
